ENJOY THE WARMTH OF SAUNAS
There are a number of establishments in the Kuopio region where tourists can experience the genuine Finnish sauna, including the traditional wood-heated chimneyless smoke sauna. One of the biggest smoke saunas in Finland is located in Rauhalahti. Adjacent to it there is an authentic lumberjack lodge, Jätkänkämppä, from the 1950's where Traditional Finnish Evenings are arranged to complement sauna bathing with accordion music, a singsong, dancing and traditional food. In winter on Tuesdays and in summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays the Traditional Evening is offered to everyone, while at other times it is arranged for groups by appointment.
It is also worth experiencing the wood-heated panoramic sauna on top of Tahkovuori Hill in Nilsiä, offering a wonderful view over the surrounding landscape of lakes and forests. The Kivennapa Manor-house Hotel in Juankoski has two magnificent saunas, one of which is a genuine smoke sauna.

At Jätkänkämppä, a genuine lumberjack lodge, you can join in Traditional Finnish Evenings every Tuesday and in the summer also on Thursdays.
